Class – Oil Painting w/ Cheryl Martin

Oil Painting Class
- Monday, April 2nd from 10-3 at the Tybee Arts Center
- Cheryl Martin is teaching one of The Bob Ross “Joy of Painting” classes.
- Students will complete an 18×24 oil painting in one day and be able to take it home that afternoon.
- The class minimum is 6 and a maximum of 12.
- Please bring a roll of paper towels!!! And wear OLD CLOTHES!!

Cheryl Martin has been a painting instructor for 25 years teaching the “Bob Ross Joy of Painting” method in public schools, private studios, community facilities, churches and her own studio in the Denver area.
Three years ago she moved to Georgia and pursued her career through Hobby Lobby in Statesboro and AC Moore in Savannah.
She opened a studio on Wilmington Island under the name of Island Palette. In November she closed the studio to allow more time for instructing and painting in various locations. She and her husband, Laymon, moved to Tybee in December to enable her to enjoy the beach and listen to the surf while she painted. She has her own studio behind her home on Tybee and is currently working on her own paintings with open windows, cool breezes and the sounds of the waves on the beach…its her heaven on earth!!
Cheryl is continuing to hold painting classes in the area and in the Tybee community where she holds classes at the Tybee Art association building located at #7 Cedarwood, Tybee Island .
She offers “Bob Ross” oil painting classes that teach everyone (even beginners) how to paint lovely seascapes, landscapes and florals in one day. Students complete an 18X24 oil painting using step by step methods. Cheryl furnishes all materials including easels, canvas, paints and brushes. All you need to bring is a roll of paper towels and wear old clothes! (fee for class…fifty-five dollars)
NEW CLASS – Painting with guest artist Jeanne Curtis
NEW Class – Painting with fluid acrylics on prepped Aquarius #2 Paper
Jeanne Curtis is a signatured member of the International Society of Experimental Artists. This is a membership by invitation only and Jeanne carries her incredible imagination and skill into this class. She approaches her paintings in a spontaneous and intuitive manner.
She is driven from within to create art that engages her viewers and draws them into her world of imagination and discovery. She is more than willing to share her ability in the arts with her students. The supplies for this exciting class are all furnished. The class size is limited and it is for all levels of skill.

Learn the art of beautiful writing and learn to prepare invitations, flyers or certificates.
Mallory Pearce will be hosting and teaching this class on:

Class – Acrylic Painting

Beginners Acrylic Painting – Seascape
- 1-4 pm on Sunday, February 12th at the Tybee Arts Center
- Students will be painting an16X20 seascape and will finish it that day.
- Students must be 21 and up..wear an old shirt and bring a roll of paper towels.
- I will furnish all supplies and they do not need to bring anything but the paper towels.
- It is a “cork and canvas class” and students may bring their own” beverage” of choice. I will furnish chips and dips.

Class – Redneck Wine Glasses
Redneck Wine Glasses (aka Country Crystal)
You have seen this fun and quirky stemware in local gift shops and on eBay! They usually retail for $14-$24 each (plus shipping).
Sign up for this $25 class and make four (4) glasses. All supplies for the glasses will be provided, as well as an instructional hand-out with sources so you can order more supplies, if you wish.
Two one-hour sessions will be offered on Thursday evening, February 23, 2012, at the TAA building at 7 Cedarwood on Tybee. Session 1 will begin at 6 pm and Session 2 will begin at 7 pm.
All participants must pre-register, so the instructor can order enough supplies.

CLASS – Mosaic Basics
Mosaic Basics On Tybee!
8 hours of class time over TWO days
- Part 1: Sunday, February 11th, 11am -5pm
- Part 2: is Thursday, February 16th 5-8pm
- All supplies included.
- One 8×10 inch completed mosaic to take with you.
- $95.00 total
- Your choice of Three Easy To Complete Designs Using Stained Glass.
- This class includes everything you need to know to start making mosaic art!

First Day:
- Includes 6 hours of class time.
- Transfer of design onto project board.
- Glass and other “tile” choices.
- Basic techniques in cutting glass.
- Use of tools; nipping glass into small pieces.
- Filling in the mosaic using several techniques.
- Instruction on the flow of glass as it is placed.
- Grout spacing and grout color choices.
(Bring a snack for break time at the three hour mark. Fruit and bottled water provided)
Second Day, 2 -3 hours.
- Grouting and finishing of project.
- Includes instruction on mixing grout, applying and clean up.
- Grout sealing discussion and painting edges.
Class size limited to 6 students to ensure my full attention.

Summer 2011 Pottery Classes offered
2011 Pottery and Sculpture Classes Summer Camp Offerings
Take a sculpture or pottery class to learn something new…or continue a flourishing hobby! Classes are centrally located in Midtown Savannah. The hand building classes include instruction in different sculpture techniques such as coiling, slab work, pinching, carving, and bas-relief designs. The pottery instruction involves learning how to center the clay on the wheel, how to make plates, bowls and cylinders, and how to attach handles and make surface designs. At the end of the session children will apply either underglaze paints or glazes to complete their work with a splash of color. All work will be finished with a gloss glaze and fired. The fees include all materials and firings. The work will be available for pick up after all of the firings have been done.

About Tiffany Drabek: Tiffany is a local potter and ceramic sculptor. She has a BA in Art and French from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and has been working in her medium since graduation in Dec. ’91. In Savannah, she has been teaching clay classes to adults and children since 1999, and she has specifically taught home school students since 2001. She offers pottery birthday parties throughout the year, and she has Christmas Gift-Making workshops and her annual show and sale each November. She is also currently an instructor for Classical Conversations and Kingdom Builder’s Home School Co-Op.

Open Studio Painting Class – Denise Elliot-Vernon is currently hosting an open studio at the Firehouse Arts Building (7 Cedarwood Avenue) from 10am-12 noon every Thursday and Monday mornings. Painting Classes
Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 4 pm — Rebecca Rice leads an open studio painting/drawing class. All levels of experience are welcomed from never have to always have. Feel free to stop by the center during our class to peak over our shoulders or sit for a spell and enjoy the atmosphere. Class fees are 15$ for Tybee Arts Association members and 20$ for non members.
